Afghani food is really tasty! It really feels like a fusion of Persian, Indian, and Mongolian foods. The sauce that came with the meal was a combination of my favorite flavors - jalapeno, cilantro, onion, and garlic. It went well with just about everything (except our salads, the waitress advised.)
The service was excellent, despite the fact that there were only two other parties there that night. The ambiance was casual, reminiscent of many Indian restaurants to which I've been. The walls were decorated with tapestries or painted with images from the deserts in Afghanistan (or so I presume they're Afghani). White pillars. Very inviting.
Here's what we ordered (on my side of the table anyway):
Drink:
Afghan Tea

Appetizers:
1. AUSHAK (Leek and scallion filled dumplings, topped with yogurt and meat sauce, sprinkled with mint)
2. PAKAWRA-E-BADENJAN (Batter dipped, sautéed eggplant topped with yogurt and meat sauce)

Entrees:
1. KABOB-E-MURGH (Tender chunks of breast of chicken)
2. FASELIA CHALLAW (Tender chunks of beef cooked with green beans, onion and tomatoes)
3. SABSI CHALLAW (Chunk of lamb cooked with spinach, onions and garlic)
Sides:
KATCHALU (Potatoes cooked with onions, tomatoes, cilantro and garlic)

Dessert:
1. FIRNEE (Light pudding with almonds and pistachios served chilled)
2. BAGHLAVA (Thin layers of pastry with walnuts and pistachios, syrup soaked)
3. GELABEE (Fried Pastry Dipped in Sugar Syrup)
